This is the first year for ETAC and I am very excited by the traditions and methods we've adopted. For those who are not familiar, here is a sketch of what ETAC does and how it functions:
ETAC is a Board-established advisory committee. As CIO for the district, I am the liaison for the group which is convened by a Chair and a Chair-Elect. The committee's purpose is to provide advice on technology initiatives to the district and to the Board in a similar capacity as the other advisory bodies of the district. The existence of ETAC is a clear statement by the Board of their value of 21st Century technologies, their use to enhance student learning and the recognition that these tools affect everyone.
ETAC meets at 6:00 PM generally on the last Wednesday of each month. From 6:00 Pm to 6:30 PM, we host a casual networking sessions which allows members to arrive, get signed in and socialize. The meetings are held at different school sites rather than at the district Educational Services Center. After convening at 6:30 PM, the host school has approximately 30 minutes to "Celebrate our success." During this agenda item, the school spotlights their use of technology and has an opportunity to outline their needs and plans for the future. After this presentation and report from the Board Liaison, the committee addresses topics the Chair, the Chair-Elect and I establish for review. ETAC concludes at 8:30 PM.
Service on the ETAC is an important duty and we greatly honor the staff, students and community members who take the time to volunteer. If you wish to join ETAC, keep an eye on the web site and apply for one of our openings by May 31st, 2007. We'll be glad to have you on board!
