Littleton Public Schools Food Services department provides breakfast and lunch for students in all LPS schools. Food Services also serves student barbecues, Halloween parties, Valentine's Day parties, ice cream socials, and summer lunch program for children ages 2 to 18, along with Parent/Teacher (PTO) organization functions, school carnivals, PTO sponsored craft shows, various catering events throughout the district, back-to-school nights, and LPS Foundation
luncheons.
Littleton Public Schools Food Service is self-supporting. Sales to students, combined with federal funding and the commodities program, generate the resources for operating food services. This in turn pays all food costs, all staff salaries, benefits, custodial time, warehouse costs (including salaries and warehouse space), utilities and Worker's Compensation. No direct or indirect funds are issued from the school district to food services.
Littleton Public Schools participates in the National School Lunch Program administered through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Child Nutrition Unit
in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Meals served through LPS Food Services meet 1/3 of the daily USDA meal requirements. Menus are based on the "New Menus" module supported through the Nutri-Kids nutrient analysis system. Food choices to each student are established on an offer versus served basis. Students are offered 5 food choices for each meal and may select 3-5 food items. Free and reduced applications, both in English and Spanish, are available through each school office and the district's administration offices.
